Sebastian River Medical Center Breaks Ground on $25 Million Expansion
The groundbreaking signified the beginning of the hospital’s expansion project that includes a new three-story tower. The first floor will house a 16-bed intensive care unit while the second and third floors will feature a total of 42 additional private patient suites. The new building will connect to the existing facility so patients, visitors, and medical staff will be able to easily move between departments. Also included in the expansion project is the addition of 350 parking spaces to the existing parking area. These additional spaces will offer patients, visitors and staff improved accessibility to the hospital’s new expansion. Presently, Sebastian River Medical Center is licensed for 129 beds and will increase to 166 beds when the expansion project is completed in 2011. Sebastian River Medical Center is owned and operated by Health Management Associates (HMA), a firm with headquarters in Naples, Florida. HMA owns and operates 56 hospitals, with approximately 8,000 licensed beds, in non-urban communities located throughout the United States. HMA’s mission is the delivery of compassionate and high quality health care services that improve the quality of life for its patients, physicians, and the communities it serves.
