Under the Director of Pharmacy, Sebastian River Medical Center has two full-time pharmacists, two part-time pharmacists, three full-time technicians and one part-time technician who process approximately 250 physician prescription orders each day for patients in the hospital. As with most hospitals, unfortunately we are not able to fill outside prescriptions.
The pharmacy is fully automated with computer order entry and billing. Physician orders reach the pharmacy via electronic mail, where they are reviewed and transcribed to the patient’s profile by the pharmacist. These medications are then immediately available to the patient’s nurse for administration from the automated dispensing cabinet located in each of the patient care areas. These cabinets bring the pharmacy to the patient care area for more convenience and efficiency in drug administration. The nurses may dispense from these cabinets using the profile dispense function where all medications have been checked for potential drug/drug and food interactions by the pharmacist. We are also able to provide computerized drug information at each of the patient care areas, explaining what the drug is, what it does, and provide answers to questions the patient may have about possible interactions and side effects from the medications they are taking.
An important community service that we offer is the ability for people to call us for information on a medication, its interactions and any other questions they may have or clarification we may be able to provide. It is important to us for our community to be knowledgeable and safe, so please don't hesitate to ask us.
