Ortho C.A.M.P. Rehabilitation TherapyServices

Our goal is to involve the patient every step of the way to assist us in promoting the most successful outcome possible.

What is Ortho CAMP?

Controlling one's own destiny is important to each and every one of us. Sebastian River Medical Center's Orthopedic Camp Rehab was built with those specific words in mind. “Camp Rehab” involves those patients that share this same goal, who have elective surgery for total hip or knee replacement.

Each patient is assessed and determined as an appropriate candidate for the program. The active involvement through participation in the program is discussed during physician office visits and through the unit visitations prior to surgery. Educational notebooks are provided withint the physician's office and are carried through the “Camp Rehab” experience.
Each patient has a coach, who is either a family member or a friend, coaching them throughout the entire process. They go through a home program first, before surgery to help strengthen the muscles that will help increase his or her mobility after surgery.

Team Approach:

The patient-coach relationships and the team concept nurtured during “Camp Rehab” helps everyone to encourage each other toward success. The program allows patient to resume everyday life much more rapidly, and also eliminates the two-week subacute stay that patients would normally have to experience. The excellent team of caring doctors elading the program at SRMC includes Dr. Kirk Maes, Dr. John Davidson, and Dr. Richard Steinfeld. They are all very excited about the program's benefit to the community. They expect between 300 and 400 patients going through the camp each year.

There are three keys to the team approach to successful hip and knee replacement surgery and the best possible recoveries:

1) Preparation
2) Participation
3) Follow Through
